I run across both of these terms when dealing with printers on sco openserver, and no one has explained whether there is a difference, or just what the diff is. i've added remote spoolers via scoadmin-printer mgr, and scoadmin-HP network printer mgr, dealt with /etc/printcap, the interface dir, and model.orig subdir... i hear some techs say these networked printers are lpd printers, others call them rlp printers. it seems that they are all rlp printers, that use lpd processes... and why are some printers just controlled by /etc/printcap, and others not in there at all, but within the model.orig dir? i've kinda gotten thrown into supporting all these different configurations and want a better understanding. your help is apprctd :)

my understanding has always been that rlp is remote line printer...
lpd is the lp print daemon.

yeah, i guess i'm making it harder than it should be. the rlp uses lpd, but i guess i was wondering about the 2nd part of my question, like is the lpd in use by the printers in the interfaces/model.orig & /etc/printcap?
