Difference between ESGF, ESIG, ISGF, ISIG and Euro

ESGF, ESIG, ISGF, ISIG and Euro


I have read the Nortel documents about these protocols, however I need a little more details about them. More accurately, tell me how should I define these protocols individually to someone other then Nortel people... They just know QSIG and ISDN. How to explain them these protocols offered by Nortel.

What ITU-T standards each of the above protocols follow?

I'm pretty sure you will find that ISGx is an ITU standard, ESGF is an ESTI standard. Not sure who calls off the EURO.

Most of the time in the US, we ask the carrier or provider what type of CO they are using, and we configure from there. that's for T-1's, and PRI's. Voice protocols here are very basic. For anything else, (UK, Europe)we ask questions, because there are so many different types of CO's, and they all configure different types of protocols. You should talk to your potential carrier about these. On the data side, it's all up in the air.

In Pakistan things are much different. China is spread like a spider net and they just sell and say good bye. Telcos only know one thing that they are running C7.

When it comes to PISN, we come across Cisco and Alcatel etc. Alcatel takes good care of protocols but as per my very little experience, Cisco is designed to run Data. It sometimes become difficult to tell Cisco that we are capable of having more then 4 Protocols (Cisco Call Manager showed me total 4 Protocols).

Most of the time Cisco knows almost Only QSIG. In Nortel we have variants of QSIG as well. That exactly was my question, what are the differences, pardon if its below then minimum definition of Basic Information...

The difference is just in the formatting of the information elements.

The one you use depends on what you have in common with the endpoint you are talking to. You trying to come up with a global standard for all your systems?

Hmm.. Yeah.. a part of my question was related to Global ITU-T Standards... anyways... I have found one thing, Nortel is rich in Protocols, correct me if I am wrong...

Guilty! ;-) In many cases the CS1K is the ultimate protocol translation box. It speaks a little of everything!

In many cases the Nortel being in the middle was the glue that kept the voice network together. A real pain to troubleshoot though when you are trying to get features to pass from one to another protocol. Not all protocols let features pass through unmodified.
