what is the Difference between Elective and Core exam

The Core exams you have to take in order to fufill the requirements for the cert. Typically, you are provided very little leeway, if any, of which exams you may take to satisfy the core requirement.

The Elective exams you also have to take to fufill the cert requirements, however, you typically have more options as to which exam you desire to take to satisfy the elective requirement. Jon Hawkins

In other words, MCSD or whatever consists of a bunch or cores that you gotta take and maybe 6 electives of which you PICK 2 that you fancy doing. Sometimes the core exams consist or an either/or such as Windows 95 OR windows 98 etc.
