Hi,friends!
I am on the way to get a ADSL connection and I am thinking what is the best DSL modem. The supported modems are not too many and my choice is between DLink-100D(internal) and DLink 200 (external). My system is:
motherboard - SOYO SY-6BA+
CPU - Pentium 3 - 650 Mhz
Memory - SDRAM 4X128 Mgb
HDD - Maxtor 40 GB
The questions are:
1.How can I get the highest speed???True the the PCI Slot (Internal DLink 100D Modem) or the USB Port (external DLlnk-200 Modem)?????
2.Which kind of speed is higher-PCI Slot or USB Port and why???
P.S.:I have never been familiar too much with that kind of stuff, but I would like to know what is the best for me...
Thank you in advance for you answers and your kind help to me!!!

Understand that unless the DSL is real fast, all the bottleneck will be in the DSL. Typical residential DSL is in the 128k to 512k range, well below the speed of ethernet or USB (10m) The PCI solution should be faster yet, unless it uses the CPU of your PC more, USB tends to interupt the CPU every character, while Ethernet tends to interrupt the CPU every packet. What the PCI card will do I have no idea.

"replacing the USB modem for an ethernet based device appears to lower pings by around 5-10ms, some people see more improvement than others. The other advantage is that it removes the CPU load of the USB modem from the PC" I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

I agree with Jimbopalmer. I'd recommend an external modem with Ethernet connectivity assuming your PC has an Ethernet port. The speed differences between the three are probably not going to be noticable to you, but Ethernet allows you to some day add a router and allow other PC's to share your DSL connection. If you have an internal modem or a USB modem your PC connected to the DSL line will always need to be on and act as a proxy for any other PC's. Ethernet connection is easier.
