What is the difference between the two?

Sorry search function was disabled temporarily... some time ago though I installed PDF Writer and now Distiller will not print... I dunno what the actual difference is between the two... or if the conflict with one another sooo

Help :)

Distiller does not print. It simply creates pdfs, and controls the Acrobat document settings, from readable file types - usually .eps and .ps. To print, you would open the pdf in acrobat and print. You create the pdfs by either launcing Distiller and selecting the proper file under File/Open, or by selecting File/Create pdf under Acrobat - which launches Distiller.

PDF Writer is a virtual printer that creates pdfs and shows up in your app's Print dialog box as one of the selectable printers.

One thing I've done on accasion is have Adobe PDF selected when I go to print a PDF - and get the error since you cannot "print' one pdf from another pdf.

Basically, the difference is that Distiller is designed to create PDFs from documents containing graphics as well as text. PDFWriter is designed to create PDFs from documents containing text only. If there are any graphics in there, they do not convert to PDF very well with the Writer.
