I am wondering why desktop LCD monitors are so heavy compared to a typical laptop. A 15-inch LCD desktop monitor weighs more than a complete laptop computer, including its AC power supply and battery. The extra weight seems to be in the monitor, not its stand.

1. Why are the monitor screen and power supply so much heavier?
2. Don't they have essentialy the same screen hardware?
3, What are the differences, if any?
4. What LCD monitor kits are available?
5. Can an old laptop LCD screen be adapted to a dektop system, without keeping it attached to the laptop? How?
