Can some explain to me the difference, if any, between using communicator and the 1X Softphone? I am having a heck of time getting the new 1X Softphones to work, yet it seems people have a pretty easy time getting communicator to work remotely.

The only real goal here is to have people have the ability to use there laptops and usb headset from home, using a vpn, and to have some type of softphone that will allow them to make and receive calls. So what should I really be using? The systems in question all have power user licenses, but it would be nice to do something on systems that dont have them.

One-X Communicator is an Aura (CM) softphone that uses H.323 or SIP, Avaya Communicator works on IP Office, as well as Aura.

I mean really it depends on the version you are running on your control unit. If running R11 or R11.1 use Workplace. R10 and R10.1 would use Avaya communicator (probably farther back). Workplace won't work before R11 and I think Communicator won't work on R11.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.

Communicator works on R11 as well, IX (Equinox) used to say Communicator in the User-Agent, haven't looked if they finally changed it.

@Janni78 I’m actually running Communicator as a softphone on R11 now....I agree with the others IX Workplace looks a lot nicer but I didn’t need all of the features that come with it.
