hi

We want to build a new IP network as following features:

1. A middle scale network contain about 6 to 8 backbone nodes, 100 to 200 small Access level Ethernet switches.
2. About 100 CCTV would running on the network.
3. 1 to 2 BGP connection with other company.
4. 20 to 100 VLAN.

My question are :
1. For the backbone nodes, could we use Cisco 6509 or 7606?
2. What is the difference of the price between and Cisco 6509 with MPLS function and without MPLS function.
3. What is the difference of the price between and Cisco 6509 and cisco 7606, assume the capacity requirement is the same.

Honestly the biggest difference between the two is the software train they run. 7600 was built for routing and the 6500 was built for LAN switching. The 7600 code is more service provider based and as it's a router it has more features within the protocols then the 6500 code. Hardware difference isn't much. You can use a Sup720 and some 6500 modules in the 7600 chassis. To get the real benefits of the 7600 you need to use the Sup720-RSP and the SIP/SPA modules.

The 7600 platform can be very expensive depending on what Sip/SPA modules you use. Based on what you are looking to do, I see no reason why a 6500 will not suffice. The new Whitney (12.2.33SXH) train has added a lot of the features that the 7600 code has had for a while.

Hope this gives you some idea..
