Really no difference, there is a lot of descriptors for a copper co line

you should get a pots line changed to ground start to avoid glare and release problems.. a loop start will work but usually have problems with any pbx.

a pots line will program an a cot loop start..

POTS=Plain Old Telephone Service
COT=Central Office Trunk

A COT is designed to connect to a customer's "system" where as a POTS is designed to connect to a customers "phone". The phone at your house would be POTS and the line going into your office phone system would be a COT

Mostly an administrative difference. Functionally, they are no different since a phone will work on both. Unless of course, the COT is Ground Start. Then the phone will not work without some manipulation of the line to a ground.
