Hi,

Yesterday i passed 70-291 with a score of 812 %-)
I studied MS-Press & Syngress and used Transcenders & Testkings for this exam.

Curious about the titles for 291 and 293 be almost the same, i started the Transcender this morning with the questions for 70-293 and it seems like i can answer every question with my knowledge of 70-291 [smarty]

Who did both exams and can explain what the main difference is? For the record, i will of course read the whole MS-Press book before actually taking the exam, i don't trust the Transcenders anymore ...

1st..
Well done ;-)

haven't sat the 291, but am preparing the 293.
ive had no pb with transcender till now....

Yanze,

I took the 70-293 about a month ago, and 70-291 a month or two before that. In my experience, the biggest differences between the two were a) that 70-293 had fewer questions and b) that 70-293 had the inclusion of clustering and load balancing, which I believe was 20-25% of the overall material.

Otherwise, 70-293 did include a lot of material already covered in 70-291.

Thank you!

Indead, clustering & load balancing wasn't covered in 70-291, maybe a few lines, but not the whole deal.
Also, CA's will be all around the exam i guess?

Right now i'm reading the Syngress-book of 70-293 and it all makes sence to me :)
So if i "extra-study" Load Balancing, Clustering, PKI & CA the exam will be easy ... right?! ;-)

Yanze,

"Easy" is a relative term. After passing 70-291, and studying the specifics of load balancing and clustering, I didn't have any trouble with 70-293.

On the other hand, the number of questions on Microsoft exams seems to be shrinking. I'm pretty sure I had at least 50 questions on 70-291, but on 70-293, there were only 35. This gives you far fewer opportunities to make mistakes as each mistake will cost you more.

A friend who recently took 70-291 (twice) told me that he had only 40 questions on that exam (both times).

Yup, that's correct, 70-291 had 40 questions.

But ... in a few weeks this exam will be a simulation-exam, i don't know what will happen with the questions, but things are going to change, that's for sure!

Well, i'll keep you posted about my score, planning to do the exam in a day or 10 or so ...

Yahoo, 800 points for 70-293 [smarty]

and did you have load balancing, clusters and CA questions???

Well, if i remember correctly there wasn't a single question about NLB.
Clustering were like 5 questions or so
CA's were all over the place
Lots of DNS intranet <> perimeter <> internet questions
Some Performance-counters (like in every exam...)
IPSec-policies
a few tricky ones about SMB Signing

There were lots of questions from testking, although i don't trust the TK-answers, i'll always review it in the MS-press-book!

Yanze,

I'm not sure if I had any questions about NLB or not, but clustering, CA's, performance counters, these things sound familiar.

I've done a few other exams since, so my memory is not perfect, but thanks for your review of the exam. I found that many of the questions were reheated from 70-291 with not much new thrown in.

Just a note on Test King, I did check out the Test King for this exam. I think there were somewhere around 80 questions on the version I had, and at least half of the exam questions were on the Test King. I'm not sure if their answers were correct or not. Test King, and its non-interactive approach, doesn't help much with questions that are not multiple-choice (drag & drop, point & click). Just my two cents.
