We are looking to purchase a 10/100/1000 switch. I came across 3Com 4200G (~$1200) and 3Com 2824 (~$350). The $350 switch seems to be a new product from 3Com. It is a managed and baseline switch but support 10/100/1000 speed ports.

I would like to know your review on this new baseline 1Gbit switch. We are planning to get a 10/100/1000 switch for our server network. The 4200G is pricey and most of the features in it aren't needed. But I am really not sure if 2824 is fine for my needs.

Thanks

The only difference is the 4200 has layer 3 (routing) features. If you're sure you don't need line speed routing the 2824 will do.

Have Fun!

The 3 com site says the 2824 is Unmanaged.
