I thought at one time someone told me that it is possible to order with a carrier a block of DID's let's say with an Indianapolis area code that can ride on let's say a Chicago PRI with a 630 area code. AT&T told me no, but I have had various people tell me this technology was possible. Basically, I want Indianapolis people to have VOIP phones off of a Chicago s8500 but have Indianapolis phone numbers. Any thoughts?

I'm surprised AT&T told you no, they offer a product called IP Flexible Reach. Instead of having a PRI, you get a SIP trunk(VOIP)and should be able to buy a block of VTNs (virtual telephone numbers). This allows you to bypass the LATA restrictions and toll charges too. I haven't had a chance to use the service, but I have it sounds like a good solution. I would talk to your vendor and see if they offer something simillar, you should even be able to specify the hand off (PRI, POTS, SIP, etc). Let me know how it works out.
