if I have a range of DIDs how do i know whether to program them on the telephone set as SCR 1234 or SCR 234? We generally do not use DIDs but I need to assign one for a special case. The extensions (system DNs) are all three digits. Does that matter or do I have to get in touch with AT&T? Also, the DID range is 368-0136. 0 is currently programmed in my PBX for the operator and 1 is currently programmed in my PBX for SPRE. to make these DIDs useful, do I have to build an IDC tree? thank you in advance for your help.

You will need to contact AT&T to see how many digits they are sending you, this will let you know how to continue.

If they are sending 4 digits, an IDC table would be easiest since the leading digit is a 0.

If they are sending 3 digits, you could either change your spre code to another number, or use an IDC table.

AT&T is sending 3 digits. can't change SPRE. If i build an IDC table do I build the IDGT as the last three #s in the DID? and does the number i translate it to have to be unique? not unique, but for example, if i have 400-410 as rollover DNs in the switch, can i point the 3-digit to 411 (assuming, of course, 411 is not programmed anywhere)?

The answer to your first question is yes. You build the IDGT as the last 3 digits of the DID.

You can point the incoming number to any dn in the switch. If you want to point it to an unused dn, that is fine. You could also point it to a dn that is already on a phone. As long as the IDC table is in the RDB, it just changes the digits and passes them along.

If you are going to use PRI/T1 with IDC the make sure you get the Err183 PI patch so you can send unused DID numbers to a busy signal or recording.

This is a know problem. You will see

ERR183 1234 0

1234 Is the unused DNIS/DN and 0 is the route the call came in on.

The patch is available if you ask for it.
