Ok,
DID card on a Merlin 5.0
The lines are set for wink
All of the ones being used are placed in block 1
Touch tone
Receiving 4 digits and stripping 2 so that the last 2 digits match the extensions on the system.
Having problems.....

Teh DIDs are not working.
I reversed the pairs to see if that might work, but no dice.

I call the number and get a long pause then a your call could not go through message from the telco.
I place a test set on the DIDs(without any being on the system) and I get a hear the DID come up and then disconnect, then come back up again.
When I place the DIDs on the system, there is an audible click from the system like it is connecting a call. This clicking seems to match the disconnection that I hear on the DID trunks.

The Telco, of course, says that it is the system.
I really don't think so, but is there a way to test for sure, so that I can be certain that with a vendor meet I can get the Telco to shut up and listen?

Well, with them set for wink, the normal test is to connect your test set to a D-I-D trunk port and, when you go off hook, you will hear a click (THAT IS THE WINK) then, you should be able to dial the number (In your case, as you described, 4 digits) and it should connect.

There should be no dial tone, as I recall.

IF you do hear dial tone, there may be something wrong with your module, -OR- it has been optioned to be an OFF PREM MODULE. (Yes, the same card can be used for both.)

After testing the module per Merlinman's instructions, verify your wiring to the MPOE. If all appears to be OK, then open a trouble ticket with the service provider for cooperative testing to isolate the problem.

From your remarks about your test call not going thru, this tells me there is a lack of continuity or other condition on one or more of the trunks and the CO swiitch is timing out on the trunks selected. The long pause you get is the CO switch waiting for a 'WINK' on the trunk selected from the LEGEND. No Wink - No call completion! Then the CO switch will give the caller the non-completion recording.

DID trunks are polarity sensitive. If it is reversed towards the CO switch it will not work! The CO switch sees this as a denial of service and may busy out the trunk. If all your wiring checks out OK, then hopefully your testing with the service provider will solve the problem. Telco sometimes has pair reversals in the cable plant that can cause this type of problem.

If the contact is difficult to work with ask for a supervisor or manager to find someone else to help you.

Hope this helps!

Had already tested the DIDs through the card and they worked. I should have ststed that.

Called a vendor meet and found that the signalling was dropping on their end.

I am pretty sure that everyone on this board has a telco horror story....
