Hi all

I wonder if someone might be able to help me with a problem I may or may not be the cause of.

I have “Norton Antivirus 2003” on my laptop/notebook and have always had an easy time with it, simple (even for me) to use and never a problem.

In the last week though I am unable to update my definitions and instead get the message “LU1875: This update failed during its preprocessing welcome text.” (There was more to it but that’s the jist.)

I went to Symantecs website, (which I have always found a little tricky to navigate, but happily due to the excellent track record I have with the program, have very rarely had to.) looked in the trouble shooting guide and found a procedure specifically for dealing with this very problem.

Trouble is that I get to step three of this procedure and it asks me to copy a line of text, without really being clear where I should be looking for it;
(regsvr32 /u “c:\program files\norton systemworks\norton antivirus\navlucbk.dll”)

Unable to find it I tried using the search for files and folders option on my laptop and it came up empty as well!

My worry is that I might have inadvertently deleted the required bits and bobs while trying to make myself some space last week and getting rid of some stuff. But it was mostly things to do with “Microsoft” that I never used.

I don’t know where to go from here, I can’t find a proper email address on the Symantec site to simply ask for help, as opposed to these self diagnostic things. They do have a section which says if you enter in the problem, they will fix it for you! I don’t know how they do that, but I do know it involves “Active X” and I was told not to put that on my system as it was a bad idea. (So I don’t want to go that route.)

Can anyone help me return to the pleasant waters and plain sailing with NAV2003 which I used to enjoy?

Many thank’s for any advice

Thankyou for the reply Joamon.

I had a really good feeling about this suggestion, but no joy unfortunately. I downloaded the update but when I ran it I got a message that my live update was already up to date and it didn’t actually seem to install any files once it had established this.

I decided to delete live update so that I could re-install the files from the download, but it seems that I can’t delete live update as an individual component and I assume to get rid of it I’d have to uninstall Norton as a whole.

If I did this, I guess I would lose all my current definitions. I assume that the newly installed Norton would then update them all again quickly enough. But this is rather assuming that it doesn’t come to do the Live Update and fail as it’s doing now because the original problem actually lay elsewhere!

Many thanks for giving it your thoughts though. I must admit that big fat zero in my replies column was starting to make me feel a little paranoid.

I believe they want you to enter that at a command prompt.

I agree. You will need to sub the correct path to the file though. The example lists system works were yours may be in just a norton or symantec folder.
