After the PG&E outage we're looking for phone redundancy. After some research I believe we would need to redirect our DID to a secondary site. I'm guessing this is done at the phone company.
[ul]
[li]Is this something that we can manage? Or is it dependent on the phone company making the change?[/li]
[li]typically how long does it take to make the change?[/li]
[li]Or can I simply have a secondary that kicks in when the office is off-line?[/li]
[li]Am I on the right track or all wet?[/li]
[/ul]

Not sure about your part of the world, but here DID is localised and owned by a specific carrier.
In essence, the same carrier can have two SIP trunks with the same DID across both of them for load sharing and redundancy on SIP trunk level.
However if the whole carrier network goes down, so will both SIP trunks.

There is no way the same DID be owned by two different Telcos /carriers.

If the DID resides on the carrier's soft switch, as opposed to a traditional TDM switch, you can login to your customer portal and send the DID anywhere. My experience is with BroadSoft, but the other major soft switch vendors probably do the same thing. If the DID resides on a traditional TDM switch, just call the carrier and have them send it to another DID that is at an office in a non affected area.

This gives me ideas and directions to look into. Many thanks.
