How can a second phone cover anothers calls including private DID calls while allowing the assigned telephones mail box to answer DID call if needed.
Have tried answer dn but does not work on private DID's. Thought of making DID public and assigning it to both phones but that will cause voice mail confusion as to which mail box answers, also dont know if its a good idea to assign line to covering phone as "appear only" (which will resolve voice mail issues)since sets are not close to each other the person at covering extention will not hear ring. Any ideas?

i believe answer dn for internal and appear and ring for did ..prime set 3 rings fna to vm backup 4 rings fna to vm .. if needed autodial prime to see if on phone but your wasting 3 buttons"at least 3" once you put line to appear and ring you have to chose how many appearances of that line..also if vm is busy prime call could end up in backups vm.

Thank You luv2ski for your timely response.
Let me give you some more details:
"It only gets better"
In order not to waste buttons I currently have 2 ring only (non-appearances) of the DID (2 icm buttons have been assigned to each ext. - all are t-7316 non e) the 3rd goes to prime = cp-150.
Each Ext. has its own private DID.
The coverage groups are mostly comprised of two to three Ext. where each group should have the ability to pick up other members calls in that group before they go to cp-150.
Most of the Ext.are currently assigned to the same pick-up group so that they can cover the receptionist if she is busy or steps away from her desk.

Try This: leave the DID as private on "BOSS" phone and make "Secretary" phone the prime Set of the DID's Target line. You would need to set the system "DRT to Prime" to yes and then the number of rings so "secretary" could answer. "Boss" phone would then need to CFNA high enough to let "Secretary" catch the call before it goes to VM.
The downside is you would have to check all trunks and target lines to make sure the Prime Set is correct on them.

alternatevly make a Service Group for "Boss" and "secretary" that can be activated as needed, set trunk answer to Y and secretary can answer the boss target line.

Thanks Jerry but i have sevseral groups consisting of more than 2 phones per group.
I went back to site today and changed all DID's for these sets from private to public and assigned a answer DN to the sets as needed. it seemed to work well. However the answer DN also rings on internal ICM calls I advised customer to look at display before hitting ANS DN to see if its an external call.
By the way had to get rid of prime set --> VM DN so that individual MB would answer instead of AA.
I was able to reproduce same results using hunt groups however ther are only thirty.
Hope this info helps anyone else with comprable issues.

Why would you make the DID's private? If they are assigned to only one set nobody else would be getting those appearances anyway...

If you assign the DID's private, I think that you can leave prime --> VM DN and the callss are answerd with the subs MB. I have also found that it becomes an easier bookeeping issue when reviewing target lines you are able to see the associated DN that has been assigned to that line
