Dear friends,

I always get an error log entry in syslog file after reboot my SCO OpenServer. The error message came from a HP Tape drive, but it still works fine with the server. The error entries are:

Dec 22 10:16:52 cgst NOTICE: cha: SCSI bus has been reset ha=0
Dec 22 10:16:52 cgst Attached SCSI peripherals will return to power up state (chaN04)
Dec 22 10:16:52 cgst NOTICE: cha: Unexpected SCSI phase ha=0 id=6 lun=0 cmd=12 blk=0 len=128
Dec 22 10:16:52 cgst A SCSI peripheral behaved unexpectedly
Dec 22 10:16:52 cgst Use Compaq Diagnostics to confirm a hardware failure (chaN02)
Dec 22 11:30:25 cgst %Stp-0 - - - Vendor=HP Product=C1537A

So I downloaded the diagnostic file from compaq and created the diagnostic bootdisk. If I boot the server by this disk and make some diagonstics or changes, will this action affect the SCO openserver? Any Pre- or Post-action I may need to take? Any Do or Don't I may need to aware?

My box is a Compaq ProLiant 800 with SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 installed. Thank you very much my friends!!

That was a known issue with Compaq controllers on certain versions of SCO, but I'm surprised to still see it on 5.0.6.

The diagnostic isn't going to do anything harmful without your consent, but you probably don't need it. The last time I saw this (which was 5.0.4 on a Compaq), I called Compaq and they had me:

cd /etc/conf/pack.d/cha

vi space.c
and changing "int cha_print_warnings= -1;"

to "int cha_print_warnings=0;"

relink, reboot and that was the end of it. Tony Lawrence
