Dictaphone Guardian question

Does anyone have experience with a Dictaphone Guardian Logger ? After initialization the units displays "Communication Failure". and "OK" button. after pressing OK the system reinializes and the same screen appears. We have a number of units that are doing this and I can't find any manuals or information to determine if there is a fix. Everyone I knew that worked for Dictaphone is retired now. We are trying to make one of these work for some testing procedures assigned to our group.
