We have a problem with Users have a large number of dairy messages, some as high as 6000. This has come about because users did not set a User Message preference and the System assumed Diary.

We have asked Mincom Brisbane for a solution and the best they could do for use was to advised to use the on-line program and delete one at a time.

Has anyone else come across this problem, and come up with a ‘Smarter’ solution

We have also just found that a large number of diary messages causes problems.
Some of our users have > 8000 diary messages.
Deleting them individually was not really viable so I wrote some VBA code to batch delete them. It uses MIMSX.DLL which is the business object connector.
I suppose you might also need to be running 4.3.1.2 for it to be any use.
I can send it to you if you like.

Martin2 - its good to know we are not the only site which has had this problem. I would be very interested in having a looking at the VBA code you have developed to remove them.

Tony, I've emailed you the VBA code as an excel macro.
Yesterday, one of our programmers looked at why the diary check was taking so long and he found that the MSS000 was taking so long.
He found that the it was retrieving all diary entries just to check if the diary button, or F7 message needed to be displayed.
He found that there was and 040 method which could just check for existence of open diary messages.
A work order has been raised with mincom to include this with base code.
I'll let you know if they include it and you can request the patch.
Actually, the best thing might be if you also raise a work order regarding the poor performance.

Tony,
Mincom have provided us with a fix for the diary message performance problem.
It is a modification to MSS040.
Ask Mincom to provide you with the distribution from workorder GA245 or MN658

Martin.
