I am connecting a Win2k Pro laptop to my NT 4 RAS server. The laptop connects to the network just great but when I try to access something outside the network it doesn't work. Well I noticed that the win2k machine is setting the Default Gateway to itself. Is there any way to automatically set that Default Gateway on the Laptop or do I have to run route manually every time?

The only option I can find in the Dialup properties dealing with Default Gateway is a check box under TCP/IP but it's only function is for machines which have two adapters and two seperate networks where they can only use one Default Gateway.

Thanks

You should be able to add an address to your TCP/IP properties.
Right CLick MY NETWORK PLACES
Choose Properties
Right Click LOCAL AREA CONNECTION
Choose Proporties
Select TCP/IP
CLick proporties
THen the Advanced button
Just click the ADD button and type in the ip adress if you know what it is.

Problem is that this isn't a "Local Area Connection" it's a Dial up connection. When you look at TCP/IP properties for dialup connections, you can set the IP, DNS, WINS, etc but no gateway. The only option dealing with default gateway is for dual adapter systems.

I Agree.. But, because this machine is also installed on a network when it's not dialed in those setting are already there. :( And the Default Gateway setting of Local Area Connection is set to what I need it to be set to but it still doesn't work when dialed in.

So you are saying that there is already a correct gateway address entered there?

When I have the check box in Dialup/TCPIP Properties/Advanced checked I get a default gateway = to the IP address of the machine. If I uncheck that checkbox I get no Default Gateway at all. (At least according to ipconfig)

I've tried using route to set the gateway but I always get "Route does not exist."

I am at the end of my rope here. :)
