Dialling from VM Pro

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's one for you...

I'll be getting certain calls to go to an auto attendant in VM Pro.

Once in there, the caller is asked to enter a 3 digit number that is know internally as various branch numbers. So, 963 is actually a store in a city.

So, by entering 963 in VM Pro, how do I get that to match up in maybe a database that finds the number for 963 then dialls it?

This will make it easy for any one calling in to transfer themselves to any store we have.

Help would be great!!

In the menu, make a prompt with "???".
Then make a "Transfer" with "$KEY" as destination.

In "System Shortcodes", make shortcodes matching the 3-digit selections, and use the "real" number in the TN-field.

I have just done a similar case, works perfect.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there's a problem.

I've already about 300 short codes in Manager that match store numbers, this is what i've got:

SC:*83211
TN:0123456789
F: Dial

So, when someone dials *83 211, they call store number 211, easy.

Is there a way to add the *83 short code along with the callers three digit selection in VM Pro to be able to call up the already assigned short codes?

I've tried adding in the 'Transfer' action *83$KEY, but that doesn't work.

There must be a way of doingthis.

Thanks

Try creating phamtom extension nunbers that matches the store numbers and unconditionally forward that extension to that stores main number. Then create a selector code on your main auto attendant (selectore code 8 for example). Have selector code 8 go to a menu that has 9?? xfer to $KEY.
Caller calls in , tell them to press 8 to call branch number.
when they dial 963 it will go to extension 963 and forward to that stores main number. Providing all stores start with 9xx that matches your phamtom extension numbers. If diferrent than 9xx you will need to create adittoional menus with 8?? or 7?? and also create phamton extensions for these also. Make sure these phantom extensions do not conflick with local extension numbering plan for example 2xx.
Just a thought. Have not tried this myself.

The Doz.....great idea!

But as you mentioned, the store numbers conflict with the internal numbering of extensions, typical!!

I've tried to elaborate on this, by making the 3 digit caller selection look to a 4 or 5 digit extension, but not sure if it'll work properly and it's just gonna make the config huge.

Could this be the end for this ideas, i wonder...?

You could make all the phantom extensions start with an 8. For example 8963 instead of 963. and at the main Attendant tell them to press 8 to dial a branch store then in the next menu tell them to dial 8 plus the store number. change your menu to 8??? and xfer to $KEY. That they can dial 8211 for one store and 8963 for another store. You don't need all those shortcodes, just 300 more phantom extensions.
If you want to use shortcodes, set up a DISA menu but using DISA will not let you dial a * or # to xfer to a shortcode. Your shortcodes would have to be numbers only if I'm not mistaken.
Just another thought.
