I am trying to dial into a legend system to administer remotely but the transfer *10 transfer function does not work. When I do this it does not transfer me to a modem sound, I just get dead air. The call says it is transferred on the attendant phone. Does anyone know how to work around this problem?

thx. nunzeo

I just tried the transfer *10 transfer and I get a horrific sound with feed back. I guess it sounds like a hardware problem. What do you think? Is there a way to reset this or work around it?

Under MAINTENANCE, (AT THE CONSOLE) you can reset the MODEM PORT.

That may, or may not cure your ills.

Yes, this could be a bad Processor.

What release is this?

merlinman,

i will try resetting the modem port. not sure what release it is. i just got involved with this system. i usually only deal with definities and this is the first time i touched a merlin in about 4 years.

thanks. i'll try that when i get into work tomorrow.

You sure this is a Legend? One of our customers insisted he had a bad processor as dialing *10 gave him "dead air" as you described. Turned out he had a Merlin II processor which has no modem.

how can i find out what type of processor it is? what options do i go through on the console to find that out? if there is no modem is there any way i can get into it remotely.

If the main console is a MLX phone, or you have any MLX phones working on the system you have a Legend processor. Access the intercom from any display phone and dial *05 to display the version.

If you have no MLX phones, look at the processor. If it has a connector on the front with about 100 pins you have a Merlin II. No way to access these remotely, and no way to back up their programming.

the system is a magix 2.0 version 9.0. i reset the modem but i still get a distorted modem sound. i am guess it is a hardware problem.

i am actually on site where the system is physically located but i am trying to get the remote piece before i leave. is that correct that i do a transfer *10 then transfer again from the console phone. is there a way that i can program a DID number of some sort to go directly to the modem?

i am also trying to find out what trunks my long distance calls are going out on. i am not sure how to view which trunk groups do what. i am used to the ARS patterns of a definity. is there an ARS table in the magix that will tell me what calls go out over where?

thanks for all your help.

Yes, you can renumber the Remote Access code from 889 to a DID number for remote access. You also need to set a barrier code, and assign it for remote programming.

Do a print of the ARS tables, and then one of the General Trunk info. The ARS will show the pools used, and the trunk info will show which lines are in which pools.

touchtonetommy,

thanks. i see the settings in the system programming for REMOTE ACCESS and BARRIER CODE. if i change the barrier code will it mess anything else up. this is just a password for connecting remotely correct?

also one more thing. can i do a print from the main console. i know it won't print but will it display the information on the screen? i tried it already but it seemed like it sat there for too long.

thanks. nunzeo

i reset the modem in MAINTENANCE and now when i do the transfer *10 transfer everyone who is on the phone will get the modem sound. is that normal?

I had the same problem with the internal modem...I pull the
pins to the battery in the processor and started from the
beginning...did not use any back up files to restore translations.....it cleared the problem with the modem....
the processor is a CKE3 r7.0142 w/ mlx sets.

nunzero - NO, IT IS NOT NORMAL - HiDeserts idea may work, or, you may be looking at a new processor.

thanks guys for your help.

merlinman, that was my next guess, to just replace the processor but i guess i can try hi deserts idea first.

I've seen three cases of Legend system with the screeching modem problem. In two instances a replacement processor provided a temporary fix but screech recurred. Replacement of the backplane on one and repair of bad solder joints on second fixed. Third time around I immediately replaced the backplane and fixed. If you have a spare processor this would be the "easy" fix, and give you time to procure a backplane for stock, just-in-case.

Had this problem several times. Power cycling the system usually makes the problem go away. Remember to turn the power supplies on from right to left when restoring power.
