Is it possible to set up dialing from Contacts in Outlook using our BCM 400? Bell canada Sales says yes, tech support says no way!

Stefan

works ok in office 2000 and XP.
Sorry I have not tried in 2003 but I suspect it will work.
Just don't try this on Norstar using CTA100 unless you are using 3rd party Nortel TAPI drivers.

Ok, what do I do? The only 2 options are:
IPCONF Line and H323 Line, both simply give me an error:
An internal error occured in the automatic phone dialer. Close the Dial phone dialoge box and then open it again.

Any Ideas?

Make sure you have the LAN CTE keycodes for each seat of TAPI you'll be deploying.

Define your PC to DN settings in Unified Manager - this can be done by IP, machine name, or user/domain

Install LAN CTE client on your PC. Reboot.

Go to a command prompt on your PC, enter the command TCMSETUP /c bcmmachinename, where bcmmachinename is the name of your BCM.

As aragon said, works good in 2000/XP.

BIV343,

To add to this question, can you centralize the database on the server for the LAN CTI Personal Call Manager so that everyone using PCM draws from the same database? This way additional customer contacts are easier to maintain as they would be updated each night on the one database.

I've never really used Personal Call Manager. There might be a way to export/import, but I'm not sure how that would be done. I've done it using a global contacts in Outlook/Exchange public folders, and that works out OK.

Are you guys telling me I have to use the Personal Call manger? I want to use Outlook! Is it possible?

No, I have no idea where the whole personal call manager thing came from. I think it's kind of a hokey application myself.

I have had this in the past. For some unknown reason if you install the personal call manager on the PC and run it in the background you can then dial out from outlook with out having to modify your outlook contacts or add a 9 infront of the number.e pc will look at your modem properties and if you have a dial 9 profile it will follow the properties of the modem profile. You do need the TSP launcher installed on the PC and require LAN CTE licenses. The outlook will not screen pop with out a third party interface like rapport for tapi.

If you use Nortels half hearted personal call manager you can import your outlook contacts. If you want to make all the PCs use the same database. You can remove the MDB file in the personal call manager and point all the PCs to the same file held on a server. This way they will dial from the same database. Draw backs are the contacts will not refresh with out opening and closing personal call manager. You might get a few issues with read write errors too.

Hope this makes sense

Marshall
