Guys,

Can anyone help me out on this.. How would it work if I setup some VoIP phones in a location that is using a PRI from another site to dial out and they dial 911?

Wouldn't the 911 operator see the address from the site that has the PRI locally and dispatch the police to the wrong site?

Sorry if this a dumb question..
Thanks!

Not a dumb question but you are correct. There are 2 ways around this I think, 1 you need a line from the remote site, like an analog line/FXO port at the remote site for 911 calls. 2 possibly Emergency Responder will fix this. Otherwise, a 911 call will show it to originate from the PRI site. We usually have an analog line tied to an FXO port at the remote to handle this though some people say they'll just use a FAX line or cell phones.

You can also manipulate the outbound caller ID info, assuming your telco allows it. I have 5 remote sites all connecting to a central CME, and the calling number sent out the PRI changes depending on where the DID is located.

If you send out individual DIDs over the PRI, your telco may offer a service that lets you maintain the location of each of your DIDs, I can't remember what AT&T/SBC calls it but we use it as well.

I agree with pndscm that the FXO port on the remote router is the better way to handle it though...

jpm121, you are talking about CallerId which is different than what is sent for 911 PSAP's. You are correct, you can change PRI CallerID but you can't change what is sent to 911 PSAP's. That info is sent by the Telco.

Thanks to all for the clarifications.. I wasn't to sure on some of the topics mentioned. Please keep posting any more information, it is greatly appreciated....

Thanks

The billing number at the remote sites need to remain in PSAP records so when you dial 911 they can see the correct number. You must show this number on outbound calls......
