In 98 (and others), when you access the Internet using IE and a modem, you get the Connect window. Contains username and password as well as CONNECT and WORK OFFLINE.

Can this get hidden? I have people who see it and change the details to their own log on details for their user accounts. For some reason they can't get on...

I don't think there is an easy way to do that.

I'm sorry if I haven't tested this to see if it would actually work but I'm guessing that it might do the trick. Never hurts to try (not much, anyway). Open the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel registry key and add these REG_DWORD values:
Connection Settings = "1"
Profiles = "1"

I think that these Control Panel restrictions will also apply to the dial-up connection box. That key will apply to the current user but I believe you might affect all users by setting the values under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Would if help if you forced the users to dial into a logon server for authentication? Probably not. If there was a chance, you could try:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
RasForce = 1

Again, sorry that I didn't try the hacks before I posted them. You have to admit that there is a certain thrill involved in whacking away at the registry with no guarantee of success or safety. :)

Good luck, Zel.
