Dial up DNS lookup error after installing NIC

After installing a NIC on XP Pro, the existing dial-up connections -which worked fine until that moment- report a DNS lookup error when trying to access the mailserver/internet sites.

IP seems to be working fine, an IP address is assigned as are DNS servers. I can even ping the DNS servers.
I checked alsmost every thinkable IP/DNS setting and that seems to be in order.

Does anyone have the same experience/solution?
