When opening some email's, the computer tries to connect and only by clicking 'work offline' more than about 12 times will the Dial-up window close down.
All options are normal and the 'check for new messages every...' is not ticked.
This behaviour ony seems to happen with emails that contain web content.
System is Outlook Express 5 with Win98se

This is normal behaviour. The web content emails will have images that are not embedded within the message, but reside back on their originating server. When you click on the message, it trys to access the Internet to download the image, therefore pulling up the "Connect To..." dialog box. Clicking 12 times means there is probably 12 images or objects within the message, each wanting access.

Cheers,
Brodie

I'm grateful for your response but what I'm getting is not normal behaviour. The same email on another machine brings up the "connect to..." box once only and does not reappear once cancelled.
Something I shall try when next encountering this machine is to change the number of 'redial attempts' in the 'dial-up properties'.
