Hi, I have been trying for months to set up my computer to dial into my computer at work. I finally have the dial-up configured. I make the connection, and I get logged on, albeit at a very slow rate. I have researched everything from Microsoft to google searches. I am sure that I must be missing something obvious, but I can't get my desktop to open after I have logged on so that I can use it (like remote desktop). My XP bible makes it sound like it's just a matter of setting up the dialup connection and your there. I have windows XP professional at work and windows XP home edition at home. I do have remote desktop and web connect setup, but for some reason they are not always reliable. I have tried setting up a vpn connection using the dialup connection, but I get error 800. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

When you try to establish a VPN connection, you receive:
Error 800: Unable to establish connection.
This error can be the result of having outdated firmware on a router. To see if this is the problem, perform a network trace. If the router advertises a 0 window size in the TCP handshake on port 1723, update the firmware.

Dial up networking 800 error
The VPN server may be un-reachable, or security parameters may not be configured properly for this connection.
This error may occur if a Virtual Private Network .Some of the reasons this error occurs include:

The PPTP or L2TP server is not reachable. A firewall could be blocking traffic; the server name specified in your connection could be incorrect.

Your connection configuration might prevent IPSec from establishing a secure channel with the server. A network component such as Network Address Translation (NAT) or a firewall might be blocking IPSec traffic.

Verify whether you have a current machine certificate or that the pre-shared key is correct. Check the security settings in the properties for your network connection.
