has anybody any suggestions as to why my dial-up connection becomes corrupt?

line noise... have your phone company check the lines for noise... they will probably test to the D-mark, and then blame the wiring in your house... but, at least you will know...

some homes don't use the copper core phone line, they use a wrapped aluminum foil phone line... this tends to cause problems after a while, when the wrapped foil starts to come apart...
