Every time I start my PC (Win98) the Dial-Up connection box appears and wants to connect to the Internet.

Can anyone advise what I can do to track down what is causing this?

It's almost certainly a programme in your STARTUP folder. Go to START>RUN> type in MSCONFIG> hit ENTER>STARTUP> uncheck everything bar except SCANREGISTRY & SYSTEMTRAY>APPLY>OK>REBOOT.

Everything should now be OK, so do the same again and add in the files you disabled one at a time.

Kind regards

Phil

Hi

Do you have Zone Alarm installed? I had the same problem with this. I can't offer a solution but it may save a bit a time searching for the offending program.

Hope this helps

I believe you have your dialup connectoid set to dial your connection automatically. If you disable that feature your "problem" should go away.

When your dial up connection window begins at start-up, uncheck the button that says "Connect Automatically".

You will need to connect manually when you want to access your dialup connection but the dialup connection window should not begin at startup.

Hope it works for you.
