dial-up connection ok, but extremely slow browsing

my dial-up shows 52Kbps, and I can download music fine. but IE is super slow! this sort of started after I installed Keiro firewall - could there be a connection???
I sometimes have to wait 1minute for a page to appear - never mind the images!
please help,

it's still really slow - even with the firewall off. I also have a spyware program running, and even if I turn that off too, it's still slow. could they have changed settings somewhere? this started only after I installed those programs (which I did with together).
