I've setup a system using Win2000 Server. The connection is a 56k dial-up to the internet. Mind you I do not use this system to serve anything, it just happened I have a copy of this OS.

I can dial in without issue, but when trying to reach a website, I get 'Internet Explorer cannot open it's search' (or something to that effect, in which I get the page cannot be displayed error from the local file.

If I type an IP address I can access the site. But clicking any link will result in a no page found immediately. My setting is to find DNS automattically as is getting an IP automatically.

Anyone have the slightest why there isn't any DNS lookup?
Thanks
Rich

Run an IPConfig and see what the DNS server is set to.

i saw this happen once before too. a laptop dials up and does not get any DNS information whatsoever. unfortunatley, since time was of the essence and the user was going out of town the only solution was to reimage the laptop and all was fine from then on.

Go to add/remove programs and do a repair on your installation of internet explorer. This should fix the problem....
