hi,

we upgrade the network and the dial in use to connect to an old compact prolaiant 3000 now connects to and IBM 3 months old server 235.

the 235 is faster with more RAM (2.5GB, the laptops are IBM G40,R40.

when dialing in connection is established but it is slow as, even unable to replicate notes databases.
Before the upgrade the dail-up worked fine.

Any none issues or any suggestions?
This is driving me crazy I am the only IT peronal in the office of 45 accountants.

Thanks

If you're using a normal (analog) phone line to connect to the server, the CPU, RAM, etc. are most likely not the limiting factor, it's your phone line. Assuming you are using a modem, you should verify that you have the correct (and latest) driver from the modem vendor, not the Operating System version. You may also be interested in confirming that the modem is compatible with the Bus it's installed on (data width, speed, and PCI-X compatibility). What else changed with the upgrade? Same version of OS? Same physical location (connection) to the phone line?

Also, check your memory configuration. The xSeries 235 uses 2-way interleaving for RAM and requires specific memory configuration to work correctly. The product documentation that came with the server should help you here. Aside from the slow dial-in speed, does the server seem to perform as expected? Is evrything except the dial-in faster?

I would first check your bios settings for your COMM Port.

Check that no advanced features such as
:Console re-direction....are turn on and alocated to same port.. (not sure if applys with x235)

Then I would check your O/S for come port setting. set as high as the com port supports. and work back if you have problems.

Use latest Modem driver and check firmware version.

Regards

Bernard.
