This was relatively easy to set up when we had our audix system but I don't have a clue where to start with mod messaging. I'm wanting to be able to do something like "if you know your party's name but not their extension, please press 1 .... please enter the last name of the party you are trying to reach" etc.

Our local vendor has offered to do this for us but at a very high cost. Is this something that isn't too complicated to explain here? thank you for your time.

You can do it 2 ways. one is to use the auto attn and you can tell it in the VMSC that 1 is spell by name.

the other is with a caller App that will need to be built and recorded. This will mean that you need to associate a number with the caller app so an inbound call is answered by that caller App.

I would post a snapshot of a caller app but I can't upload a file to this site.

Are you wanting to do this on the main number for VM? If so then the auto attn one will be your best bet.

Actually I have no real preference but would like to have some flexability to keep some of the names unreachable (I would assume this is easy enough by changing the name on those select few within modular messaging)

thanks and any assistance is more than appreciated

You can just use the Auto att in the VMSC then and change the digit for spell by name or by default it uses the * key. As for not wanting to spell some names you need to change the common name as that is what it uses

I'll dig in today and look up VMSC and see if I can pull this off. Since we cut over from audix, all I've done is check backup success and maintain users.

thank you ken

When you said that the vender was going to charge you a high cost to do this how much was it?

Damm that is high we would do it for $500.00 or less

I am very confused. I talked to our local provider here about my concerns that we are going to be overcharged. He promptly sent an email to the company who will do the work (the company that also replaced our audix with MM as part of a larger upgrade) and the response is below:

Most likely a day or two. Just depends on how smoothly it goes.

Well I may not understand what you want done but if all you want is the spell by name to work from the main menu it is not that hard to do. If you are talking about doing a big drawn out caller app it can take that long but i do not think it would.

All we want is the ability to have, on a menu, the option to do a "if you know your party's name but not their extension, press X" caller presses X and is told to spell their last name, etc. Thats really it. I've downloaded some things from avaya but the most I can find is a generic primer on dial by name and a paragraph that preceeds it that just says it can be done.

Thank you

Me again, maybe this is the issue, we have multiple brands that our company produces and we will have a need to have more than one menu that offers this. I still wouldn't think this would be a big deal if its an extension that you route to that offers the dial by name.

It is not but if you don't know how to do caller apps and you need more than one then you are sol unless someone shows you how to do caller apps.

You can try playing with them your self from the MM menu on the MAS or load it on your PC and set them up and then deploy them to the VMD on you MM system.

You would then need to make a assocation with the number that is forwarded to each caller app.
