Hello everyone, I was recently made aware of a problem where the dial by name option is no longer available by pressing '1' from the main caller's menu. This is the main open trees system greeting. I do not have the documentation on how this was setup. I tried using CDR to see which mbx is answering, but the callee field is blank. There is also nothing listed for port monitoring. Does anyone have any ideas how to troubleshoot this. I don't want to rebuild since we already have a cutom greeting that all users are accustomed to. Thank you for your help...

It sounds like you are using a customized greeting and not a menu. That means that you recorded over the octel greeting from the system manager’s mailbox and that you don’t have any options from that greeting. If you want to add spell by name you will need to change the setup so it is answered by an ECP mailbox.

With out more info that is what it sounds like to me.

what does it say when you hit the 1 key ?

Thanks for the reply KenMeans, when you press '1' the system idles for a second and then returns a, "1 is not valid, please redial the number you are calling" error message. How do I know how the system was setup (ECP mbx, system manager, or other)? I also received mixed advice on how to set this up. I was told to use a type 32 by one and a type 29 by someone else. Is there any other information I need to provide? Thank you for your help...

My best advice is for you to tell me what you are trying to do and what options you will want on the menu I.E. do you want it to transfer to an ext or to a mailbox when you dial the number? And how many options you want. This will determine what type of mailbox is best.

Let me know

I just need one option. From the main system greeting I want the user to press '1' to dial by name and be transfered to the ext of the subscriber and not the mbx. there is already a 4411 directory mbx built on the system.

Do you also want the caller to dial a ext number from the menu and be transfered to that number ?

Correct, we currently have the following options;
- Enter the four digit number of the person you would like to leave a message for.
- Please press '1' to dial by name
- If you have a mailbox on the system please press '#'

then you need a type 32 mb that will let you dial an ext number and you can setup the callers menu to press 1 to go to the spell by name mb

Thank you for all your help Kenmeans, unfortunately we have to submit for an approval from the LOB here so things take time before I can actually do this.
Just to confirm, after I create the type 32 main mbx and the type 29 mbx for the dial by name option, am I using the type 32 or 29 for the port monitoring?

you will use the type 32 you may not need to add a type 29 if you already have a spell by name MB you can set the callers menu for #1 to go to that mailbox

That makes sense, I appreciate your help KenMeans and I will post an update on how everything turns out. Thank you..
