Hi,

I have posted the following in the avaya users forum previously, I thought I'd try it here also to see if maybe someone's encountered this previously.

We have an older Merlin Magix system that used to be on a PRI and we moved to a T1, after much trouble with XO, our numbers are now ported and we can get inbound calls to main number and to DIDs.

I am a complete newbie to this and we're just trying to get an idea to see if this is an XO problem or local to our system.

This worked on the old PRI line. Dial 9, to get a line, then dial the number.

Now, we dial 9, dial number, goes back to dial tone, then we can dial the number again and the call will go through.

Our vendor is saying this is on the XO side, XO is saying, it's our system. We have not changed anything on our side other than plugging in the new XO router to PBX.

Who should I be bugging about this? Thanks for any input.

If you will print and post your ARS and PRI settings, we can have a look at them and see if something can be spotted

I just successfully connected to the system with WinSPM after some googling around. Let me see if I can figure out how to get that info you need.

I believe this are the info you wanted me to print. Please let me know if there are items in there I need to edit out for privacy.

Thanks for looking at this!

Posting to my own question... I did some more searching and I found this in the Magix manual. Is it possible XO has me setup for a second dial tone?

The System Manager can assign a second dial tone timer to lines and trunks. This feature helps prevent toll fraud when a company uses special services from the telephone service provider (for example, when star codes are used). Most telephone service providers offer special services that involve a second dial tone. For example, star codes enable telephone users to obtain services provided by the central office. A star code consists of a star (*) digit followed by a 2- or 3-digit number and is often dialed before an outgoing call.

Last question: Not very likely.

It looks like you are still set up for PRI.

Can you print LINES & TRUNKS GENERAL and your POOLS?

That is where we need to look now.

-merlinmansblog.blogspot.com

I printed other info earlier, I will check tomorrow when I get back to the site. I can't connect to the system remotely.

I hope this is the info you're looking for. If not please direct me to where in SPM I can't get that.

Thanks again.

A SYSTEM DIAL PLAN

Just a little more observation on the outbound dialing problem. The system will wait for a minimum of 3 digits before it will give the second dial tone. After the last digit, there's a pause of approx 8-9 seconds before the second dial tone.

Well, what I was looking for was under PRINT > Lines > General.

That would tell us what pool the lines are in.

What you are showing us here STILL indicates you have PRI, but also, it's just labels.

Also, if you could print SYSTEM SET UP that may give us more info as well.

-merlinmansblog.blogspot.com

I printed this SYSTEM SETUP yesterday. I will log into the system and print the PRINT > Lines > General.

merlinman,
I don't see the option to print > Lines > General . SPM says I'm using MAGIX Release 2.0 v9.0 Mode: Hybrid/PBX if that makes a difference.
Thanks!

OK, let me correct the info on doing this, in the STANDARD PART of WINSPM:

System Program > Start > More > Print > TRUNK INFO > GENERAL.

Once you print that, we should be able to better determine what's happening.

-merlinmansblog.blogspot.com

I guess I had printed that already the other day. Here it is.

To add to the topic. When I was speaking with XO activation rep on the other side when asked me to make an outbound call, he said he was seeing the labels or extension names instead of numbers.

Your first statement included ".....used to be on a PRI and we moved to a T1".

Well, apparently not. Everything I see says it is still a PRI.

Now, that being said, it would seem to me that XO is the culprit in the issues you are having.

You may be able to glean some good data to tell them IF, when a failure happens, you are able to see what "B CHANNEL" the call attempted to use.

That would be easy enough to do considering each of the PRI Channels have their own UNIQUE label. (T1-1, T1-2, and so on).

Therefore, instruct your users to notice which one they are accessing by taking note of the T1-XX Number, and perhaps you will see a pattern.

Also, you may be able to get some very good data by printing the ERROR LOG.

Either way, I would be talking to XO about this problem. You could explain to them that NO PROGRAMMING or PHYSICAL CHANGES have been done on your system, and you have only had these issues since they replaced your old PRI Vendor.

I have had clients who had to finally get rid of them due to the problems they had.

-merlinmansblog.blogspot.com

Thanks for the tip merlinman. Our vendor will be here today and I hope he can pick up what you've noticed from our info.

Right now, we had to give out a little dialing instruction for the phone users. Dial 9, 1 2 3, wait a few secs for second dial tone. :(

By the way, XO provided us with this new Cisco router iad2432-24fxs.

XO finally got their act straightened up. One bad code in their config is all it was that caused all these aggravation.

They could have sent the tech sooner and plug in his tbird into the router to see that he was getting the same dial tone we were getting when we dial a number.
