I am setting up a 4600 IP telephone over a VPN using ADSL where the client already has a DHCP server setup at each end.

As the IP403 is not acting as the DHCP server do I need to configure the 176 Option and any others before the phone will work?

Any help/advise much appreciated.

Thanks

After some research, I think this will help you some ... I get this exclusively from the IP office Job Aid 023 document where it speaks about this exact situation.

Assuming DHCP is disabled on your IP403 and their DHCP scope/subnet/lease time/DNS is already configured, you do need to change the option 176 settings.

- Right click on DHCP server.
- Select predefined options
- select add
- enter the following:
name: 46xxOptions
Data Type: (string)
code: 176
Description: IP phone settings
(string) = MCIPADD=xxx.xxx.xx.xxx,MCPORT=1719,TFTPSRVR=yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy,TFTPDIR=z

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = gatekeeper address (normally IP Office Control Unit's address)
yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy = TFTP server IP (PC running manager).
z = the directory on the TFTP server (if it's at the default location, you don't need to add that last TFTPDIR=z bit.)

Then click OK.

That should do it. I hope that helped you!

Thanks very much for your help, i will try this on my first install.

You need to give the phone a static ip address that is in the same range as the router, with everything pointing back to the ip office!
