Hi,

I have installed win2003 server and promoted it to a DC. Then I installed XPPro on another machine and give it an ip address to be able to join it to the domain. Now, I would like to configure the ip of XPPRO dynamically using DHCP of the DC. However, if I set the xppro to get the ip configuration dynamically, how will the machine be able to find the DC?

Thank you

DHCP is a non-routable broadcast protocol. Your machine will send out a broadcast message to the entire network. The closest DHCP server will respond to the request for an IP address and issue it accordingly.

Good luck,

I was able to configure the DHCP server and the XPPRO, but that point "DHCP is a non-routable broadcast protocol." was not in my mind :) Now I understand. Thank you
