Hi, I require help/information on the following problem if possible:

We have a Windows 2003 DHCP server running 10/12 different scopes. Every time we restart our DHCP server or DHCP service, one of our scopes loses scope option 003 router. This totally disappears and we have to add it in again manually each time we reboot. As you can imagine this causes us great problems if we forget to add it manually as no-one in that scope gets a default gateway assigned!

Has anyone else encountered this, I thought it may have been a scope corruption but there no errors in event viewer to suggest this.

Well, the short-term fix is to create a batch file that uses DHCPCMD to re-add the missing option every time your server restarts.

Here's what the DHCPCMD entry might look like if your server IP was 172.25.219.100 and the subnet you were having trouble with was 172.25.209.0, and your intended gateway was 172.25.209.254:

dhcpcmd 172.25.219.100 setsubnetoptionvalue 172.25.209.0 3 ipaddress 172.25.209.254

Here's the syntax: Dhcpcmd ServerIpAddress SetSubnetOptionValue subnet_address option_id option_type option_value

I've had this same sort of problem with losing printers after every restart, but scripting the printer recreation was a little more difficult. I've never found a solution for either this DHCP scopeoption-dropping problem or my printer disappearing problem. I've just had to work around them and move on.
