Quick question. I have a dynamic dns and have a utility for linux that I can run to update the dns. I would like automate this task by having the utility run every time dhcp gets an address. Is there a script I can run this from that will ensure every time my external interface is enabled that the utility will run. Also is there a variable I can call on to find the current external ip address, example (./updatedns
Thanks, Nicao

Hello,

Are you talking about some sort of PPP connection like dial up or dynamic DSL/Cable modem?

You can put a simple script in crontab(If cable or DSL) that can check your current IP against the IP your DynDNS resolves to and if they dont match can run the script, if your running Dial-up, then you can place the auto update utility in the connection script. Or if you have DSL that requires PPPoE software(Like Winpoet for windows) then you can place the script in there as well.

Its an adsl connection that is not using PPPoE. I'll check into the crontab idea.

Thanks, Nicao
