Hello everyone!!

This is a very basic question for you the experts, not for me.So here I go:
I am using a NT 4.0 server with Service Pack 6
I am administering 6 clients with Internet access. All the permissions are given.FTP services, and Proxy services are running properly, but the DHCP service is not started automatically every time I start the server.
I have to start DHCP manually.Anyway some clients cannot access to FTP,or IRC servers.
Can you give some idea about what is going wrong?
Is DHCP asigning virtual IP adresses to the clients in a wrong way?

Any help welcome!!

Thank you

Alejandro

Why is your DHCP not starting correctly ?
Is the service set to start automatically (go to services in control panel, look for DHCP Server, click on 'startup' and make sure it is set to start automatically.

Also, make sure you are running SP6a
If you are not sure, simply (re)-apply SP6a Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Hi Peter!
Thank you for your answer.
I went to control panel and checked out the options. The DHCP service is set to start automatically.
I tried different cases. When I turn on the server the service is started automatically. Then after a while when I look at DHCP is not started.I have to start it again.
The server is quite old.
Besides when I try to use services such as Dialpad,or Hotmail Messenger, for a while everything is fine. Then suddenly the server shows a message from Dr.Watson, and it closes Internet Explorer 5.
Could this be a sign for you about what is wrong?

Once again thank you for your help!

Hmm strange problem... never seen this before...

Are you using reservations in your DHCP ?
If not, I would stop DHCP, remove it from the server, reapply SP6a,
reinstall DHCP
reapply SP6a
configure DHCP...

Any chance you could do this ?
Or do you have another server where you can set up DHCP temporarily so you can take down the 'old' one...? (simply take care that you're not setting up 2 DHCP for the same IP range, that's all) Peter Van Eeckhoutte

Thank you Peter for your help.
I was thinking that this question would be strange.
How Do I reconfigure DHCP?
If you give some advice about this I will do the job as soon as possible.
Thank you again Peter!

As I said before :

Stop DHCP service
Remove it from the server,
(network neighborhood - properties - services tab)
reapply SP6a
reinstall DHCP
reapply SP6a
configure DHCP...

That should do it... Peter Van Eeckhoutte

You need to confirm that your DHCP scope properties are are correct. If this server is providing Proxy services you need to ensure that the server is setup as the default gateway in the scope. For those that cannot access some internet protocols you may need to set permissions for the access to the protocols.
