I cannot seem to get DHCP option 125 to work for a 3300.

I am setting it on a Windows DHCP server and using VLANs.

Am following the tech handbook with no joy.

Thanks

When you say work, what specifically will it not do? Is it added to your scope? Are the phone not seeing it?

Did you also set the old DHCP options? Depending on the firmware of the set, it may not know to look for option 125. The old options still need to be there until the set gets new firmware from the 3300.

When the new sets boot up with the new software, they have an order for looking for DHCP options.

1st - option 125
2nd - option 43 (which is the same as option 125 but on a Windows server.
3rd - the old options 128 - 130.

IF you are using a Windows server, follow the directions for both pre Rel 7 and after Rel 7. The directions for Pre Rel 7 will help you set the options for 128, 129, 130, 132, 133. After all your sets have new firmware, you can delete or deactivate the old DHCP options if you want. The only problem there would be if you added another set later that needed the proper firmware to see option 125/43.

Hope that helps.

My Biggest problem is that I almost always believe what I tell myself.

I had the same problem, after installing version 7 i had to keep the old DHCP setting untill the IP phones down loaded the new firmware - after this i removed the old DHCP options and this now works.

However just remember if you install a new extension and this has old firmware you will need to reconfigure the old DHCP.

I just left all the options in. It will be July before we start to see phones from Mitel shipping with the new DHCP scope options.

i think i need to change the windows option 125 to option 43. As option 125 is not supported on a windows server.

I will do this when im back on site.

Cheers

I can't see why option 125 wouldn't be supported on MS Server? There is no good reason for it.

Option 43, the only other issue I have seen with it, is APC (the battery people) use it for their bootup.

I configured options 43 on a Linux server the other day. Windows should be easy enough as you should be able to add it like you would option 128, 129 etc

Also note that if the phones don't have the latest version of firware it wouldn't understand the new options anyway. You would need to get it to download the new firmware (release 7) first. Just use the old options in addition to the new ones.
