Hi

Im trying to hook a Mitel 5312 IP phone to a 5000HX system. I don`t want to setup the phone manually with any static IP`s.
I have turned on DHCP from the system. When i plug the phone it boots up and after the DHCP discovery is displays DHCP : Discovery Option 128 missing.

what should i do

Thanks

hi

does anyone know the answer please ????

Is the phone broadcasting into the same subnet as the 5000HX - ie. Is the switch port the phone is plugged into configured for the same vlan.

If not you will either need to configure CDP or LLDP to switch the phone into the voice vlan or set-up the DHCP server on the native vlan with mitel options.

If the phone is broadcasting in the correct subnet and it's a different one from the 5000HX you may need to configure a helper address pointing to the 5000HX.

hi

thanks for the reply.

I`mm doing this in my office network. It a small network. There are are no VLANS but we have our own Mitel 5000CS system on the network as well.

But i have assigned the Phone MAC to the test system which is also on the network.

I can get the phone working with the teleworker setting by manually entering the system IP.

But I`m trying to test whether it is possible to do just plug and play.

thanks again

If you are enabling the DHCP server on the 5000 on the same vlan as your data then verify that "Clients Vendor Class ID Must Match Name " is set to yes. Configure option 125. Set the format to "Mitel Tags". Vendor ID should be set to "1027". Program the "Mitel Tag" field to your specific configuration. Don't forget to program a starting and ending IP address scope. Hope this helps.

hi

thanks for the reply. do i have to configure the scope ? can the phones get the settings from the local servers ?

Thanks

Did your office network already have a DHCP server running on that subnet? Is it possible you now have two DHCP servers running.

Have you upgraded the system to rel 6, or was it a new install at 6.
If you upgraded you might have to default the DHCP Server by going to the menu. Operations/DHCP Server Operations/Default DHCP Server Settings.

hi

thanks for the reply guys

i have disabled the DHCP on the Mitel 5000. i want the phones to get the IP`s from the office DHCP server.
it is a version 6 and i have default the DHCP server but no joy. anyway i dont think it will make difference because the DHCP on the Mitel 5000 is disabled.

thanks

You need to create a scope option 128 in the office DHCP server with the relevant string entered that will issue the handsets with the system IP and TFTP server address, if not you need to static the system and TFTP address on the handsets and let the rest come from DHCP, those are your options :)

thanks guys

yes got the idea. yes we can change DHCP in out office but its not possible at the clients site.
i have tried configuring the phone as a teleworker. i just need to enter the IP of the phone system. its much more efficient than configuring static IPs.

thanks for the replies guys
