We have a Novell 4 network and recently installed DHCP service on an NT 4 server. We set the scope appropriately for our subnet. However our clients usually ignore our DHCP server, and instead they go through the gateway, to another subnet, to another DHCP server, and get one of their IP address. Conversely, some of the clients on the other LAN go to our DHCP server and get one of our IP addresses!
When the clients run winipcfg, and click release and renew several times, they will eventually get the right address for out subnet. But then they loose the connection to the Novell network, and need to re-log on.
Both of our LANs use the same internet service provider. We share the same T1 line, and have the same DNS settings, for Domain and DNS server search order. Our LANs are connected through cable modems, and we use Baystack Advanced Remote Nodes as gateways.
We are wondering if there is a way to make our clients only go to our DHCP server and not theirs.
