I'm trying to install a cable modem for the first time on my desktop machine. I'm running Windows 2000. The modem is installed via a USB to 10/100 Ethernet Adapter. When I check my Local Area Connections, the status shows connected, but I am not passing any data (0 Packets sent/received). When I check the Services, DHCP Client status is Starting. It is set to start automatically. When I try to start it manually, it times out, saying that it did not start in an appropriate amount of time. I had Kerio Personal Firewall installed, which I have since uninstalled. I previously had Zone Alarm installed, which I uninstalled before installing Kerio. I also had Ad-Aware, which I have since uninstalled. Since I have seen inprevious threads that these all could pose problems with DHCP and detecting IP addresses, I downloaded and ran the Winsock Fix that was posted last week. After rebooting, the DHCP Client still stays at Starting. Any help to get this resolved is much appreciated.
