Hello,
I have a very strange problem, on my network I've just setup a brand new windows 2000 server, running exchange 2000. This server has 2 nics, nic 1 is connected to the symantec vpn which in turn is connected to the ADSL modem.

I have disabled the Symantec DHCP, and configured the Windows 2000 DHCP scope.

nic one has the following settings:

IP 192.168.1.10
netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

nic 2, has the following settings:

IP 192.168.1.11
netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Now my problem, everytime i connect a PC to the network, the are allocated some funny IP like 169.xxx.xxx.231!?!?

I don't really know where these are comming from?

Maybe my setup is incorrect, if so what do i need to do to get it setup properly.

Thanks

What is your DNS server for both interfaces?

169.254.x.x is an IP address assigned by windows when networking isn't working. Azeus has a good point. What about the DNS server? Do a ipconfig /all and let us know what happens.

Your DHCP is not configured properly/not working, that's why it's not offering any ip address and these indicates the APIPA 169.254.. an IP address you get when you set up your PC to get ip dynamically but no DHCP found.

How did you configure your DHCP, most of the time people missed to get it authorized.

here is what i get when i do ipconfig /all
