I've just installed RH8 Professional and I'm trying to set it up as a DHCP server (just in a lab). I've created /etc/dhcpd.conf & /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases files but when I try to start the dhcpd service it is unrecognized. It is not listed as a service in the graphical service configuration utility either. What am I doing wrong, and who said linux was an easier way to do things?

How was DHCP installed? If it was installed as an RPM, then there is probably a startup script for it in /etc/init.d/. Try this...

service dhcpd start

Also, from a command prompt, type 'ntsysv'. This allows you to edit which services start at boot time.

Nobody said it was easier, most people think it's fairly
hard till they spend a couple of years with it.
People have said it was better. ;-)

Try here and remember that the linux documentation project
is your friend:

My fault this one, the dhcp module wasn't loaded. Once I managed to install the rpm module the dhcp server service is now working, many thanks.
