I'm looking at implementing Directory replication on my main file store for all of our customer data. There is about 40gb of files (over a million files and thousands of folders, not SQL DB's just word/excel docs and alike).

I'm currently using Windows server 2003 SP2 R2 on my servers with DFS installed, I have a namespace set up for some smaller folders and its working great with the replication services too. I have also added the patch for additional namespaces so I can do the same for my customer data.

My main concern is wether DFS will handle the replication of so many files? I've google'd about maximum number of folders / files but they generally talk about linked folders and namespaces?

Your thoughts please?

DFS/FRS Limits
NOTE: In Windows Server 2003 and Windows 2000 server, the contents of Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) roots and links are also replicated between domain controllers

Thanks for the links thats very helpful. Its definately put my mind to rest! on the amount of data and number of files.

Once I've finished my tidy up of those folders I'll be giving it a go!

Thanks once more.
