We are using all windows 2003 standard servers (not R2, original release).

In my attempts to do a "many to one" setup for DFS replication, i found that standard can only have 1 root per server.

So here's the question. Say I have 9 windows 2003 SP1 servers. Can I set up DFS roots on each of those, and have them replicate to a single 2008 enterprise or datacenter server?

Thanks,
Andrew

No not without 2003 R2 as DFS was modified in R2 and it wont work without it

I read that if you update the schema this could work, but I have had no luck. When I added the DFS role to my new 2008 enterprise server, one of the installable options was 2003 support (and it even said it supported 2000). Shouldnt this be possible?

Any ideas?

I'm certainly not a DFS "expert", but can you still have multiple targets under one root?

\\domain.com\data
\\domain.com\data\server1
\\domain.com\data\server2
etc.

And just set the servers accordingly? Admittedly, I've never tried it that way with a pre R2 installation of DFS.

Well I tried it two ways.

Setting it up from the 2008 server. It asks me to choose the "Branch" server. I choose my 2003 server, and it says "DFS Replication service not running."

I set it up from the 2003 server. I set it up just fine (one root, multiple targets) and turn on replication. No errors, no replication happens.
